Rachel Mason is a self-employed project manager who has worked in the STEM engagement industry since 1993. Her experience spans event and science centre management, strategic planning, budget, staff and stakeholder management, evaluation, exhibition production and activity development/delivery. Her current work focuses on supporting discrete time-limited activities where additional support and fresh thinking is needed.
Rachel’s skills have grown from a good grounding in the sciences, with an MSc in Communicating Science from the University of Glamorgan (Techniquest) and BSc (Hons) in Psychology and Biology from Keele University.
Her experience in the field of STEM engagement is broad: starting out as a presenter and deviser of science Theatre in Education performances, Rachel toured UK schools and festivals. She went on to work in exhibition design and production at Science Projects, with responsibilities in reporting and project tendering. In 2003 she took the role of centre manager of Techniquest Glyndŵr from pre-opening to 2009, having overall responsibility for all aspects of the Welsh Government-supported centre, operating in partnership with Glyndŵr University.
She is a member of the British Science Association and is Chair of the North Wales branch. She is also finance director to a community interest company delivering projects to engage disaffected/deprived people in a Communities First area of Wales.
